Hi M,

Full disclosure - I'm GM through and through.

GM has morphed into the leanest( Domestic) manufacturer with the best quality as defined by the buyer (J.D.Powers).

GM has leapt over the other by an early embracement of doing business over the internet.

This eventually grew out of their purchase of EDS.

GM is sitting on the largest pile of money made over the decades - it is GMAC.

They guard their wealth much closer than Ford ever dreamt of.

Ford has been dangerously aggressive with subprime sales and it will burden them in the long term.

When we can't get someone done they go to Ford and buy some crappy Ranger or Focus.

When I hear about bond ratings lowering GM and Ford in the same breath I want to puke - some one is vastly unaware!!

As for cash reserves - they just floated a 10 billion bond to fund their pension (of which I will be a recipient at age 55).

Last year they thru in 5 billion from earnings.

GM will be the first automaker that will not have an underfunded pension fund and that will be an albbatroos off their neck.

Meanwhile they have already positioned themselves to be one of two trully competitive global car manufacturers - the other being Toyota.

Ford blew their wad buying profitless highend European cars - Jaguar and Volvo.

GM bought Deawoo.

South Korean car manufacturers are the lowest cost globally for now.Chine will be the next - but their home market will prevent exports - GM owns a large part of Shanghai Mototrs as well.

GM's first rebadged Daewoo car that will compete in price with Kia and Hyundai will be Aveon , a four door sedan and 5 door hatchback.

As Ford takes huge risks with financing Focuses and loses money on their sale. Gm will be picky on who to finance and be profitable.

Ford in some circles may not make the trip.Their assets when compared to FOMOCredit's bond obligation are miniscule and they're underfunded with little hope of profits being poured back into the pension fund.

They are behind the curve on the new product pipeline.

I ramble but you hit mu button.GG

Bob

GM will surprise many as your viewpoint is shared by many - It was also my viewpoint and that's why I went to the Retail side.I've since improved what was once a very critical viepoint.

Rick Wagoner is a very brilliant man - and it will require patience - NO DOUBT !!
