i haven't. i reached a part, where
no matter how many times i re-read it,
i really couldn't understand. i thought
about skipping over those few pages but
didn't want to do that either - that
was too easy

Ha! Apparently I'm at the same point in the book.
I thought it was my poor reading comprehension kicking in.
Either that or the constantly loud level of noise that my
kids are able to produce.

I'm stuck somewhere in the middle of Part II.
I found Part I to be a breeze to read. It drew me in.
Part II keeps kicking me out.

Anyhow I plan to keep reading it. However, I too have
stopped. Not because of not wanting to. No. Mine is of
laziness. Ya see last Saturday I took it with me in
wifey's car to read in the car during our long drive to
Long Island (whose name seems more and more appropriate the
more I sit in traffic on the LI Expressway on each visit).

Anyway, instead of reading it I thumbed through a few
motorcycle magazines instead. The book has remained in the
door compartment of my wife's car and I've just been too
lazy to go out to the car and get it each time I think
about reading it...

I'm hoping Pirsig begins to tell us more about the trip.
I sort of get lost each time he starts taking about
whathisname (his forgotten past dude).
Phadris? Can't think of his name right now. I keep getting
confused everytime he tells us about him. It's an uncommon
name that keep getting stuck on.

Let me test to see if I actually have any reading comprehension...

Whatshisname is actually himself before some sort of
lobotomy or shock treatment or something like that which
helped him not to be mentally ill any more.

Right?

So now he has forgotten his past except for a few glitches
or whatever.

Now his son has been demonstrating signs of mental illness.
So he takes him on this cross country ride instead of
taking his wife.

It is this storyline that has me hooked. I wonder what
he's going to do or teach his son to either help him with
the problem or whatever. I also wonder if whatever he
teaches his son will be wasted if he has to get the same
treatment as his father.

If I could only get past this continuous loop of confusing
pages that will not allow my brain to absorb what is being
said...

I'm hoping Lurqerdude chimes in every once in a while to
see if we are following it correctly. Maybe get a mini
Cliff Notes version of the hard parts...

P.S. Enjoyed your mouse story.
Don't tell wifey but yesterday I noticed a snake in the
backyard attempting to do the same thing as your cat.

The 18" long garter snake was waiting in the grass under
the bird feeder for a mouse to come by, I assume. He saw
me and slithered away.

I must have frightened him.

I wasn't sure if my snake scaring method of screaming like
a little school girl and hopping up and down while I held
the cuffs of my shorts would work.

It did. The fierce snike ran off into the thicket.

Either that or the snake laughed so hard that it peed
himself and had to go home and change his skin.
