Innocents Abroad
The real problem with those Americans opposed to the conflict that occurred in Iraq is their egotistical supremacy to those abroad.
Like some sort of "parent", they view Cheney, Bush, Wolfowitz, Powell and the others in the government, to be only driven by the almighty dollar in every regard. It is the sophisticated, inventive, conniving, conspiring, duplicitous Americans, willing to have others killed if it means profits. They reserve =all= selflessness for themselves, and credit NO ONE whose made any money, ANY compassion.
Millionaire "status"? That is just the "starting point." If you don't got "billions" you're "nobody".
Whenever they talk about Arabs, and Iraqis specifically, you'll see the adjective "innocent" used over and over. The specific implication is that these folks are a simple, lovably bumbling, go-your-own way people unfortunate that they sit upon a pile of oil, and don't know what to do with it. They are "prey" for sophisticated Americans, so intellectually advanced. Baghdad? Why, isn't that one of those "Palestinian resettlement areas?"
They give NO CREDIT to Iraq citizens in the following areas: Sophistication Political Savvy and nuanced consideratin Business expertise Technical training Military dedication or military desire
By their position, they egotistically weigh a 13-hundred years of Islamic culture in the area against our 200+ years, and find the Arabs woefully "undermanned". We just are not "fair". "You mean, we just invade any country we don't like!??!" one of my friends wrote. Yet it is those folks who are woeful in their ignorance.
Ask them who "Saladin II" is. They will probably think it is a movie like "Terminator 2".
Ask them who was the first Caliph of Baghdad was. They'll probably say they don't keep up on foreign news that specifically (though it was over a thousand years ago!)
The egotism of "rich Americans" who just want to shop, and their sympathy for "foreigners" who just want to avoid the overbearing business bully..."Americans!" is the root of divisiveness on this issue. |
