I was thinking more about the musical tastes thing- and my daughter, who plays the flute, likes music different from what I like (in FACT she tells me Requiem is getting really old in the car). My daughter loves opera- I like it- but she loves it. I bought a bunch of operas on CD for my kids, especially the Zeffirelli versions, and while all 3 of my kids will watch them for about an hour, my oldest who plays the flute will watch them over and over, but she doesn't like Wagner (which is my favorite) although my son loves Wagner. So we watch Wagner together. (Now Wagner would strike me as gothic). My son is a clarinetist, as is my younger daughter. I've no idea if the instrument you play makes a difference, but I know that I love to be able to hear the piano or clavichord in music. I think my daughter disproportionately enjoys hearing flutes.

Do you play an instrument? Do you think that influences your musical tastes?
