Lurqin', traveler Dude...
Yes, I drove from Oslo up to Bergen and that is an astounding landscape. Magical. Along the way, we got to stay with with a family in a very old sod roofed home in the ancient village of Hemstedahl.
As we rode a ferry through one fjord, there was a group of the very typical, classic ugly American tourists, yacking about the various deals they had found while shopping.... When this women says, "wow, look at that waterfall, I wonder where that comes from?" And her husband says, "don't be stupid, what do you think keeps the fjord full."
We never let on that we were Americans....
Speaking of an amazing drive that exposes the work of the glaciers, have you ever driven from Lake Louise up to Jasper, in Alberta? You can just see the curve of the base of the extinct glaciers sooo clearly. The valley looks like a broad bell curve in many places.
I got caught in a snow storm up in Jasper in late September once while on a bike trip with a couple of buddies...we ended up riding all the way back down to Lake Louise in the snow (150 miles or more) all the way....that was not fun. |
