ND football is an island unto itself. I doubt they will want to be folded into any conference. Several years ago,I visited the ND campus when my wife was job hunting for a faculty position. It was there I came across the term *subway alumni*. Folks who never been to ND but love the football program and give $$$. No other school has that cache. Their independence gives them the ability to line-up a great schedule year-in-year out. Everyone wants to play them. Joining a conference will dilute that.

The ACC recognized Tech and Miami have dominant football programs and the dominant sport that drives the revenue $$$ is football. As much as college sports programs postures about academics underneath the sugar coating is a different reality. Having UVA in Tech's corner per the Governor was key.
