What is bogus is the argument that the Jews were forced off involuntarily and therefore have a superior right to any other peoples to the land.
The land is indisputably the historic homeland of many, many peoples, including Persians, Egyptians, Canaanites, Turks, Greeks, Romans, etc. etc. etc. None of whom have dibs.
Prior to the UN stepping in and dividing it, the majority of inhabitants were Muslim Arabs, with a substantial minority of Jews and Christian Arabs. It would have been vastly preferable, from a moral standpoint, and a legal standpoint, that land should have been acquired only through purchase.
That is the only legitimate way to acquire land.
The only legitimate way to achieve power is through democracy.
Sometimes the state has to temporarily take power, as the Allies did, temporarily, in Germany and Japan, but it is widely accepted that the Allies had no right to take over the land of Germany and Japan, merely because of conquest. |
