interesting. I liked the Nye piece, and like Nye, but wasn't as blown away by it as you were--probably because I've heard him give the same spiel a zillion times in a zillion places. As for his points being the possible kernel of a book, they were--his last one came out a little over a year ago, and he's been flogging it in lots of places. There was an excerpt in the National Interest last spring, he had a piece similar to his FA piece in Foreign Policy last issue, and writes countless op-eds in places like the Financial Times, the Washington Post, etc. So for me, it was sort of, "good common sense, but not much new." But I'm delighted to hear you liked it.
As for the Galileo vs. GPS piece, the problem with your suggestion is that the technical details you ask for would have been so boring and complex that inserting them would have turned off 99% of readers. If you're really interested in the subject and actually want to know more about why the authors came to the conclusion they did, let me know via PM.
