FWIW, my high school students find something very important in him and his music. I don't see it- but then my mother had FITS about the ROlling Stones. I kid you not. The Sticky Fingers album made her crazy. She broke it into little pieces and threw it away. So, I can't pretend I think adults can be objective about the merit in the music their children listen to (or the merit in the music of generations they are removed from).

I have kids, and I'd rather they didn't listen to most rap- because I don't like the brutality. I don't mind sexual lyrics at all, but I dislike violence, and violent images- in movies, in video games, and in song lyrics. That said, i wouldn't forbid it- but if my kids really wanted to listen to that sort of stuff, they'd have to be willing to listen to it with me, and discuss it. I never want to give something like that the irresistible cache of the "forbidden".
