Yes, the energy barons robbed us blind. What is even sadder is the right wings ignorant comments on the cause. You compared it to blaming the bank president when the bank is robbed. I think of it more as blaming the rape victim instead of the rapist (remember the old 'she was asking for it' argument). The fact that right wingers accept this falacy is proof that they are simply drones of the right-wing media and refuse to think for themselves.

However, Davis has not emerged as a stellar leader. He should have been shaking Bush by the short hairs, raising a stink, and catching the crooks. But, maybe that was impossible after 9/11. He should definitely not have signed the long term contracts until the market settled.

In the end, California was punished for not supporting Bush in 2000. Meanwhile, California dragged the US economy down the tubes. Karma being what it is, having Bush lose in 2004 on his 'stupid economy' would be justice for his political childishness.
