I agree with your point there. The worlds nations were still absorbing the effects of WW1 and it's aftermath though. The desire not to fight national wars was strong..

There is some links I wish to find on that. Even prominent USA WW1 generals and politicians expressed strong views on a pacifist approach.

Yes we have had 911, which is enough to stir up the USA's will to fight, other nations (like the USA pre Pearl Harbor WW2) have not yet fully understood the predicament they are in. Militant Muslim religious fervor, hell bent on world domination.
