Except the article you posted is nothing but carping and blaming America from start to finish, with absolutely no alternative course of action proposed for anything the writer takes issue with.

Ergo, he's as bankrupt in this conversation as he claims our policy was.

Aside from that, I agree with your first statement, and I think by and large the American people have shown they understand the bigger picture far better than the carpers and the critics who insist on piecemeal dividing up the reasons we've done what we've done would like. And that's the whole nub of the matter right there. There was no one single overriding soundbite-sized reason for taking down Hussein. There were many good reasons all in play together, it was a holistic foreign policy issue if ever there was one. The disservice that's being done is in trying to reduce them all and dumb them all down to simple thing, that can easily be attacked by those whose primary interest is attacking the whole package.

Jingoism stinks? Yes, it does. Hornberger is as guilty of jingoism as anyone.
