T, I like Woody, though I think he peaked with "Play It Again, Sam." I also think winning the Oscar ruined him, though every once in a while he hits on all cylinders. "Hannah" was pretty good, but, then, I've never met a Barbara Hershey movie I didn't like.
IMHO, the biggest problems I have with Woody and Mel Brooks is their tendency to star themselves. The best Brooks movies are the ones where he has, at best, a bit part. Woody's are so autobiographical that he probably thinks he needs to be in them, but I could see a good actor besting him in many cases. Though I still can't see anyone else playing cello in a marching band. <G> |
