Thanks. We can be proud of our troops, of course, especially in that we almost single handedly defeated the Japanese. One of the great stories of WWII was given in "But Not In Shame" by John Toland. It is a history of the early battles in the Pacific up to Midway.

Midway was one of the battles that was actually *underdramatized" by a Hollywood movie (of the same name). Read the book, and especially the part on Midway. It is astonishing that the entire balance of the War in the Pacific turned. I won't ruin the suspense, but we went from getting our butts kicked to kicking butts big time in a matter of minutes. Not to denigrate the bravery of our pilots in that battle, but I believe it is one of the few times in history where God really did reach down to tilt the tables of a conflict in the favor of good.
