I think the prominence of Jesus in many New Age texts is easy to understand. There are many aspects of Christianity which are "hard" and there has always been a countertrend within Christianity to offer watered-down versions that are easier to swallow.

It is not possible to reconcile the Jesus of the New Testament with most New Age beliefs without intellectual gymnastics which disserve both. If one takes New Age views seriously then one is forced to conclude that either Jesus was not a "spiritual master" or else the "real" Jesus has been lost to history. I see no other intellectually honest position on can take on the question. Fanciful biographical reconstructions, therefore, seem more designed to assuage latent guilt feelings among the lapsed than to shed any real insight into the historical reality of Jesus.
