There is some difference between not legislating against something and forcing social acceptance. A general prohibition against sexual discussions in the classroom, unless part of the approved curriculum, would pretty much take care of revealing the abnormal fondness for the woman's dog, and make it a dismissable offense to clarify matters for the kiddies.
The logical basis against polygamy is not, it seems to me, that it is perverted, but that it reduces the status of the redundant sex too far, and creates an unhealthily competitive environment among the diverse offspring for position within the household. Even the Patriarchs, before the Mosaic Law, were allowed multiple wives and concubines, leading both Rabbis and Church Fathers to conclude that polygamy was not against the natural law, but was a "positive law", enjoined by the sovereign, prohibited in the Mosaic Law. In any event, there are public policy considerations, and also considerations of legal right, since every spouse is a party to the altered relations, and should therefore should be able to give or withhold consent........... |
