Joey,
Thanks for your kind words and invitation.
Re. IPOs, I am usually extremely selective about which ones to acquire, and so far I have only been in NSCP, UNNT, RMBS and ATHM. Since H&Q (where I have an account) is frequently a co-underwriter for hot high-tech issues (along with Morgan Stanley and Merrill), I was able to get a small allocation (only a few hundred shares) of the ones they were involved in at IPO price (and through negotiation).
On the other hand, I was also offered some less iluminous issues; in most cases I was able to "flip" on the same day for a profit--nothing big, still a free gift that only cost the time required for 2 phone calls.
As to my other 2 NY brokerages, it seems that they never came out with anything terribly appealing, and the allocation would be much smaller--only 50 shares to individual investors regardless of account size. Thus I seldom bothered with these two brokerages when it comes to IPOs.
About upcoming IPOs, I am currently only interested in Marimba which hasn't set a definite IPO date; but, then, I haven't really put in much effort in an exhaustive search. My main focus in investment is still the high-quality large cap tech issues such as INTC, CSCO, MSFT and LU. Hope this helps a little.
Regards, Ibexx
PS: Thanks again for the invitation. I love Boston and am not far away, as I have a summer place on the Sound in CT. |
