That is a needlessly fatalistic view, Jorj. And rather far from what we learned in Econ 101.

If Bush at al were doing nothing re economy, one could think they subscribe to your view, that nothing can be done to an economy in trouble. Quite the contrary, judging by their manipulation of the money supply and the proposed tax cut, it is rather obvious that they ARE indeed trying to "change the course of economy".

The question, of course, is if they are doing a good job. I am not too sure about that. In fact, their expansionist policies seem aimed at containing the overwhelming debt problem at every level (read: saving the day) at the cost of perpetuating the next wave of misguided investments (with negative real interest rates), and quite possibly, significant inflation over the coming twelve months.
