For kicks, I sent him an e-mail asking if I could pick up my bars when I'm visiting my sister in nearby Aberdeen.

Maybe I should see if I could buy a bunch of bars, but instead of paying him, have him sends them to a broker who pays him his 10 cents on the dollar and me the rest. That would elevate it to the level of the Nigerian scam, but without the hassle!
