I read Scandalmonger a while ago. It made me interested in the scandal newspapers of that period. The contempt expressed in the scandal newspapers during the presidencies of our first presidents, for those presidents, was quite amazing. Worse than anything now, I think, or at least on par with any of the most violently partisan elements on the internet.
