prickly-

so far, i've given far less than the price of
a cannon powershot G5 to scott's "care to help"
project -- lottery drawing comes up in a little
over an hour - if i win the jack pot, i'll buy
a filter for the water pump. <vbg>

i've thought about RR's regatta dream and i hope
you'll pass along this e-mail exchange with another
winner-wannabe and tell RR he's invited - i even have
a starfish to rent him for one share of qcom...

Polvo.....................

Greetings Capitan'........ I've just returned from NH where I got the opportunity to sail out to the Isle of Shoals 6 miles off shore on an Ericson32 ( significantly smaller than the Beneteau 345 ) Doesn't seem like such a long distance anymore................hmmmm.. wonder why.....
The reason for this epistle........ I am assuming / hoping that there is some sort of race this sunday due to the element of the 4th. Pray that it be true.......As I may have missed some letters being away ,you are the 1st person that I thought of when it came right down to accurate information. Let me know... I'll be there..

PS: Actively selling out... made my decision. Everything goes. G

captain bazookas-

1st, as to your sell-out. what took you so long?
you won't regret it (regret is a waste of time
that could be better spent drinking).

2nd, i see a new address on your e-mail. i changed it in my
address book.

3rd, my son dave went with me to the lake last weekend. a little
storm blew in (40 kts - seven raindrops - 2,000 lbs of dirt).
i reefed when i saw the bastard chewing up the lake surface
behind us. nick of time - piece of cake. i showed dave how
to heave to. then i showed him how to run like the wind - clear
across the lake... broad reach... 45 degrees of heel... super
fun... approaching san francisco cove (the little one on the east
end) i had to point up a hair to get positioned for entry.
rudder blade snapped off. no biggie, got blown ashore immediately
while i pulled sails down... resting on iron keel all the way down.
had a couple beers and did some clean-up down in the cabin.
comes time to leave, i'm motoring off in reverse as dave retracts
keel, wind shifts, blows me backwards into shallow rocks,
bends prop, no biggie, it still works, i bent it back with a
wrench when i pulled it out on the trailer. greg loaned me
his old blade. i'll try it out this weekend.

i've heard so many people who got in bad weather say, "i always
worried that the boat couldn't take really rough conditions
and might break... but now i know that the boat can take a
lot more of a beating in rough seas than i can."

i've crossed that amateur barrier... i can now take a lot more
than the boat. ha ha. i'm ready to crew for new zealand.

4th, here's the plan (see invite copy below)... since the 4th is
friday and people have to go back to work on monday, the race will
be on saturday. i'm going up on friday, so's tom. and greg.
others to launch on saturday. kenny boy and lindy man may come
for first 2003 launch and race, maybe dr. dale, no-shows will
be swanson and carrie, leaving first place up for grabs.
greg bought a cal 25 at the butt last week for 2K. seven new
sails including a full, 5 oz. spinnaker that he's bringing up
to try out on his macgregster. kath is bringing a rack of ribs,
coleslaw and baked bush beans for the pot luck and some stuff
for breakfast burros on sunday (including marie sharp's habañero
sauce from belize).

5th, i can't tell you what i might do to you if you don't
show up (if i told you, i'd have to kill you).

6th, here's the e-mail invitation you missed:

greetings, water babies!-

i'm almost back from belize (the body is here but
the soul is still there)... what a wonderful sailing trip
we had. what a wonderful crew we had... easy to spend
the night with -- for 10 days in a row.

the next organized boater's event
is fast approaching... THE 227TH ANNUAL HBOC INDEPENDENCE DAY
PARADE will be held on saturday, july 5th at 2 PM belize time
(which just happens to be the same as mountain daylight time.)

following the parade, there will be a fabulous pot-luck independence
day picnic on the beach. i foresee people preparing things like apple
pie, fried chicken, potato salad, and some other sorts of meats grilled
and basted with delicious santa fe sauces. i envision sweet watermelon
slices spilling juices down onto my belly and i can already taste
the essence of A&W root beer floats made with hand cranked ice cream
on my lips.

kathleen will be bringing the prized boc jacket with newly added
patches and lapel flag pins from belize attached... to be presented to jim
carrie (or possibly some other lucky parade participant who crosses
the finish line first).

hope i see you there.

meanwhile... there is no new news on the marina but there are
still great times, great cuisine, and great friendships to be
shared on the lake among the homeless boaters of cochiti (HBOC).
