Intel recently cut the price of the Pentium ~50% or more and more cuts are coming in Nov. Other companies are planning on low cost Pentiums and system on a chip like NSM and SGS Thompson, and IDTI.
Even if the StrongARm is now 30% cheaper the development and manu
costs are probably higher since the Pentium is a well known architecture and the support chips are probably cheaper.
NSM expects to have $500 PC by end of 98 and shooting for $250.
