Thanks for the reply, Eric. Some of what you state is a bit over my head, but I think I can put the pieces together to get the gist of what you presented. I'm not schooled in RF technology.

Here are my concluding thoughts:

(1) My hypothesis is that of VZ-W's move toward seamless inter-operability for VZ-W & Vodafone customers as 3G is deployed in the coming years; it is not one of VZ-W's abandonment of its CDMA-based domestic network; &

(2) the article I came across merely made mention of an OVERTURE by Nokia toward VZ-W (not Vodafone) with respect to including W-CDMA technology in future "terminal" chipsets it would offer to its US-based subscribers.

I think the "World Phone" id'd in the link you provide, which BTW I came across last month as well, supports this hypothesis.

Lemme ask you, if Verizon-Wireless's domestic network would support a GSM/CDMA World Phone in the near future, would that not require VZ-W to provide some sort of software upgrade to its cellular infrastructure to accommodate World Phone subscribers?

Thanks for your responses.
