DISPLACED VIETNAM It is important to remember that the dissent of the Vietnam era is all many of these journalists today know. It is almost like they are longing for the days of old, wanting badly to refer to some event as the "next Vietnam". Fortunately, there will NEVER be another Vietnam. Vietnam was as close to atrocity as we've ever committed against ourselves. Any rational look at where we are in Iraq today MUST lead one to believe the operation has been a huge success. People on this very thread were talking about the war going on for months or even years. Here we are, a few months into the thing, and amazing progress has been made. Most Iraqis want us there. The infrastructure is all coming back online. Elections are actually within reach. The looting and crime, characteristic of every liberation such as this, has declined. The bodies are turning up. The criminal leaders of the previous regime have been rounded up. The WMD are turning up, albeit slowly. The oil production is soon to be restarted. There were no environmental disasters. Coalition casualties have been minimal; civilian Iraqi casualties have been minimal; damage to infrastructure was minimal; there was no major humanitarian crisis, and there was no refugeee crisis; Turkey didn't get involved; Israel received no missle fire. The crap that went RIGHT in this war is simply too long a list to repeat. The big news is the Palestinian situation. While it was obvious there would be positive effects, nobody could have predicted how quickly Bush would move to marginalize Arafat and bring about a peaceful resolution. And it really looks as though this may happen now. While the Dems are looking hard to find bad news, it is really difficult to find anything but good news coming from our action in the Middle East. In my view, at least...
