Lemondae is actually a good analogy. You can still squeeze it, Country Time and other brands just give you more choices

Another criteria. Choice. We can add other criteria such as "environmentally friendly". Lemonade peels are more environmentally friendly than cans or bottles. You suggest [perhaps unintentionally] that "choice" outways all other criteria. Or at least you're implying that choice allows you to avoid the question about whether CT lemonade is better than fresh lemonade. You take the position [it's not a bad position] that if you like the convenience CT lemonade is better; if you like flavor, hand squeezed is better. But that avoids the larger question whether canned lemonade is better. The only way the question could be answered is if we agree on a weighted criteria and assess it. It could very well turn out that under an agreed to criteria that canned lemonade was a "mistake". But canned lemonade is going to stay here for a while.

In the abstract, more choice is good. Motherhood and apple pie. But choice has disadvantages. How do I choose? Most often we choose based on best advertising. When we moved to England all the choices changed for simple things like cleaning products. We had ~10 new brands to pick from for a substitute for 409. Lots of choices. Lots of trial and error. I didn't find more "choice" to be a good thing. Eventually, we settled on a product, that did better than the other ones, but those other brands are still sold [presumption; they would not be on the shelves if they didn't sell]. So people are buying inferior products because they have a choice and were sucked in by the advertising. Is "choice" good? Choice is inefficient.
