So what harm in continuing inspections?

1. Saddam continues in power and the sanctions continue, a combination that has really bad consequences for the Iraqi people.

2. We have to keep the army there indefinitely, poised to strike in order to have Saddam continue to allow the inspections to continue. As soon as it looks like we are pulling back or losing interest Saddam goes back to his old ways or obstructing the inspectors (in fact he was still doing at least a little bit of that anyway). Eventually the political situation changes, Saddam obstructs the inspectors and gets away with it, and the inspections again become a farce (if they where ever anything more then that).
