Once a week seems a bit much, I do it once a year after the cottenwood trees quit shedding. Ok, right, I should do it more often. Lots of people never do it and wonder why the AC won't cool and it makes so much noise.

When my dad was in the hospital they had a window unit that roared and didn't cool. I asked for a screwdriver and got told off. Other people stood guard while I took it apart with a dime, cleaned the filter and it got quiet and cold.
