Could the US become a Coulterite totalitarian state?
Sounds impossible but listen up -

Don't forget how Nazism began. With a seed of frustrated hatred in search of a scapegoat. 5-10 years later that seed had grown into a nationalistic military movement where every citizen was required to be patriotic, pro-military, pro-procreation, pro homeland, and Germans were convinced by Hitler's people that it was their right to wage unilateral unprovoked war on other countries in order to establish a world dominating super power.

Coulter's charge that half the country are traitors, and that Arabs are smelly subhumans with the wrong religion is a new starting point. True, our democracy is probably too strong to ever succomb to political purges and one-party rule but McCarthy tried, certain right-wingers like Coulter apparently dream about this sort of thing, and who knows someday if this extreme partisan mass-hatred isn't stamped out.

Think about this. Coulter claims all Democrats are traitors, more or less. What if her dogma became the marching cry of the next wave of neocons and somehow they were able to get a lock on power lasting on and on. So long as a majority of people supported them (and many people can be controlled by propaganda, conformity, nationalism and fear) what if these Coulterites take over and say "let's scrap the constitution for a new one which we write", thereby making other parties illegal, then waging a McCarthy type purge of all dissidents. This is the kind of thing we see in some sci fi novels, but it isn't impossible.

That's what worried me too about the Jeb Bush voter roll scrubbing in Florida, taking away the voting rights of tens of thousands and getting away with it. Multiply that times 1000 (if they could get away with it) and so much for democracy. I dont mind being beaten fair and square, but the subversion of democracy is the first step toward totalitarianism.

So let's not even go there, please. And everyone in this country, dump Anne Coulter and let the networks know about it.
