Thanks for the response, Eric. You've id'd an inconsistency in my hypothesis. But recall that it's drawn from several sources: (1) statement by consultants that new cell being designed by VZ-W for LAX will be GSM capable; (2) article that Nokia was making overtures to "Verizon-Wireless" (not Vodafone) about using WCDMA chipsets in some of its phones. I cannot respond to what "Denny Strigl is talking about" because I don't know. I guess we're just gonna have to see what develops in the future, in particular with the VZ-W cell design @ LAX. At this point, one can only question the credibility of the consultants that first stated the domestic VZ-W/GSM connection. Their statements were made in a public forum that is a matter of public record, which arguably adds to its credibility v. a statement made in private conversation. Speaking of records, for the record, here's s the e-mail response I subsequently rec'd when I presented to one of the consultant's info of the article I cannot now locate. "As for the information on GSM technology for Verizon, I am glad that you were diligent enough to discover the possible migration to the GSM platform. The people that informed of this tentative technology change are pretty high up in the organization and because of the context that the information was relayed, I was pretty confident of the information's veracity. . . The article that you point to is pretty indicative that the tech move is a strong consideration at this time with a date uncertain. But as we all know, tech companies do not make equipment changes with the hope that a potential client might use it, especially when it involves such a major modification to the delivery platform." If I learn more going forward, I will share with thread. But beyond that, I think we've exhausted this discussion. Next topic is SBC's impending rollout of Wi-Fi access points throughout key areas in its incumbent territory following VZ's rollout in NYC a few months.
