Wow, I get to argue two conservative arguments in a day!

Californians pay through the nose in taxes; 10+% state, 8+% sales (in Silicon Valley), more for gas (for taxes and 'special formulation'). Even with Prop 13, I pay 5 figures in property tax (roughly equivalent to how much I made in my first job out of college IN A YEAR).

Prop 13 prevents people from being shoved out of their homes due to property tax. Some retired people who bought their houses 30-40 years ago would have to sell their homes to pay the taxes, if not for Prop 13.

Everyone benefits from Prop 13; when you buy a house, your appraised value can't increase by more than a certain amount per year. Assuming you pay $1million for a house, you will pay for that appraised value; that is fair because it is your choice to buy that house at that price, and you need to decide if you can afford the taxes. Similarly, someone who bought a house in that neighborhood 30+ years ago for $150,000 won't get taxed out of a house.
