Marconi after the fall

[FAC: With thanks to Al Bonnyman from the Community Broadband Networks blogspot,

"Interesting article about telecommunications vendor "Marconi which almost went bankrupt after the telecom crash two years ago.

post-gazette.com

"Marconi has traditionally been a big player in supplying fiber to the curb gear to the Bells and was starting to chase the fiber to the home (FTTH) market before its' restructuring. It's still unclear to me as to whether they will be involved in FTTH in the foreseeable future. (By the way, "fiber to the curb" sounds great, doesn't it? It can mean fiber to the curb in front of your house and shared by you and one or two other neighbors. More often, however, it means fiber to a curb a block or two away shared by many subscribers. And in the hands of the Bells, the actual services delivered have usually been the same exciting 20th century items all those twisted pair customers are getting -- voice mail, DSL, call waiting, etc.) (7/3/2003 7:59:57 AM)
