What astounds me about Afghanistan and little reported or discussed here, is the fact that since we kicked out the Taliban it's back to being the top heroin producer in the world, with heroin production increasing TWENTY-FOLD since the days of the Taliban. It seems to me we are doing nothing to address this problem -- the problem can be addressed only with generous development help that can allow the central government to assume control over the drug producing warlord fiefdoms.

Our Afghanistan policy is morally bankrupt, and I am perplexed that many contributors to this thread, that usually defend morality and are against drugs, are strangely silent about it, and even defend it. Leave the Afghanis alone, they say; they don't need any aid; now that they are free, they will find their way.
