well I believe the discussion on companies leaving SV was Lazarus Long asking if I wanted *all* businesses to leave Ca, presumably because I want to overturn Prop 13. This would make older companies pay higher prop taxes.

The 3Com move fails on a few accounts. 1) Taxes are actually HIGHER in Mass than Ca so a move was not predicated on tax benefits for sure, 2) 3Com while calling itself a 20-yr-old company actually experienced hypergrowth in the 90s with the rest of tech, and therefore maintains expensive bldgs here with high taxes - this is exactly the kind of company who would benefit from abolishing "tax revolt" (should be renamed *revolting* if you are under 40), 3) tech is experiencing consolidation all over the place so moves and re-orgs are likely the result of many factors not just property taxes, jmo.
