Oliver North wants a more totalitarian government to achieve what he believes is the American Way. He is willing to lie, kill, cheat, arm enemies, break any rule and obstainately ignore the key principal of checks and balances which makes outr government functional as a democracy.

If you helped him without remorse, you need to take a good long look in the mirror. North and Coulter and the types who would take away our liberties in order to replace our government with a more totalitarian regime in which anyone who disagrees with the right-wing zealot's cause is a traitor. In fact, that makes him a traitor, though he is ironically a combat veteran hero. But he is a criminal patriot, embraced now by the far right, but a proven criminal still. There can be no getting around that no mater how many patriotic war shows he does on Fox.

Let's go back to the Iran-Contra days to understand North. And let's also remember he armed the Iranians and some Contra drug-runners (cocaine which would end up on our streets) in order to fight what he perceived in the Sandinistas was a terrible, dangerous enemy. Well, Nigaragua was never overthrown by the Contras, and has never since been any major problem or threat to us at all. So much for Notth's theory. But what about those arms he funneled to Iran. Might they be soon used against our own troops?

"North admitted -- but without apologizing -- that he had lied to government officials both inside and outside the Reagan administration, that he had shredded vital documents even in the presence of investigators, and that he had participated in falsifying government records.

The zealot’s willingness to go outside the law was exemplified in North’s elaborate and secret efforts to circumvent the Boland Amendment in order to aid the Nicaraguan contras by means of profits earned in the illicit sales of arms to Iran."

Do we also see this same pattern of deception re-playing itself in the GW Bush administration in terms of making up excuses to invade Iraq? Absolutely, though on a much higher level, the highest level of all.
