ROBV Robotic Vision Systems Gets Orders for $1.5 Million of Lead Scanners
Tuesday July 8, 4:01 pm ET
Purchases are continued evidence that the semiconductor capital equipment industry needs capacity at the leading edge of test, assembly, and packaging

NASHUA, N.H., July 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Robotic Vision Systems, Inc. (RVSI) (NasdaqSC: ROBV) today said its Semiconductor Equipment Group has received orders totaling $1.5 million for its LS-7700 lead scanning systems. The orders came in a ten-day period and were from several of the semiconductor industry's largest contract test, assembly and packaging organizations. Depending upon features, lead scanners are priced at between $300,000 and $450,000 per system.

Lead scanners are equipment used to inspect assembled integrated circuits prior to shipment to customers. Lead scanners check for package uniformity and integrity, and to ensure that leads and ball-grid arrays are properly aligned. This check is typically the final one done on a semiconductor package.

"The significance of the orders is their breadth," said Michael Gray, Vice President -- Sales for the Semiconductor Equipment Group. "These are the contract assembly and test industry's top players deciding, more or less in unison, that it is time to selectively add capacity. It is additional evidence of the long-awaited upturn in the industry. We are now seeing significant activity at all of the major subcontract houses. Part of the orders we are announcing today, in fact, represent the fourth multi-system order we have received during the past three months."

Mr. Gray added that the orders were also confirmation of RVSI's long-term market leadership. "We do not take our technological and market leadership for granted," Mr. Gray said. "We have to earn every order, and we earned these orders by delivering products that continually reflect the highest state of the art, the best cost of ownership and return on investment for our customers, and superior customer service."

The systems are expected to be shipped and installed before September 30, and will be produced at RVSI's Semiconductor Equipment Group facility in Hauppauge, NY.
