I dont know TM, but the smartest man i ever knew thought the world of it....he was one of the worlds pioneering transplant surgeons.
As for meditation, all the differences in schools and styles matter little....find a teacher you trust and stick with it. As the Japanese say, "Even sitting on a rock, three years".
Grab "Zen Mind, Beginners MInd" if you have not yet read it. Read it once or 1000 times it still speaks to the deepest place we can touch with words.
The "Power of Now" is a 'recent' good read or listen. His insight resonates quite nicely.
