The very rich dont have any HARD earned money. Do they?
It's the working class who toil hard all week for their money.

To answer your question, without the rich paying more in taxes than the middleclass (which they dont even do thanks to tons of write-offs) our government cannot afford to function at the level we expect. All those popular programs, forget about them. Will have to be cut-cut-cut, including many GOP pet programs.

The main reason Bush's deficits are going through the roof (worse than Grey Davis by the way) is that he does not want the rich taxed for some reason. Plus he wants to keep spending as if thre's no tomorrow. He is basically giving the rich a permanent a free pass, as if the very fact that they're already rich makes them excempt from having to contribute to society anymore. Plus his tax plan hurts charities do it's a double-whammy to the needy people and programs in this country.

I dont understand the thinking and it makes no sense. The US already has the lowest tax rates for the rich by far in the western world. And these voodoo tax schemes are turning us into one big devalued credit card nation when just a few years ago we were totally solvent and running surpluses. Also Bush's tax cuts just make lovcal taxes go up. The point is, the Clinton tax system worked great for everyone and we should have just left it. If it aint broke, dont fix it. Nobody likes taxes, but the rich often pay less than the middleclass as it is (with write-offs galore) so why send them a gift they dont need at the expense of so many who are struggling. It's all debt now too, all those tax breaks are borrowed money. How about a balanced budget again? Where's the fiscal conservatism when we need it?
