The Spectrum Holobyte CEO has taken huge measures to make sure that the Microprose curse of non-profitability is taken care of.

I haven't seen any solid financial figures on it (will probably have to wait til the next financial report) but the following events are good evidence that action is occurring:

- The CEO has stated in their press releases that they are laying off a huge amount of unessential staff from Microprose and also doing some trimming in Spectrum Holobyte themselves.

- That they are severing unprofitable relationships (OT Sports, etc.) and are focusing on their core categories of 3d action (Grand Prix II, Falcon, Top Gun, etc.) and strategy (Civ II, Master of Orion II, Magic: The Gathering).

- Disgruntled Microprose employees putting up numerous web pages on the net about how Spectrum Holobyte 'trashed them' and how upset they are.

- Spectrum Holobyte firing the original Magic: The Gathering staff who were taking years and accomplishing nothing and replacing them with a new top notch staff which includes Sid Meier.

- Sid Meier leaving after he finishes up tweaking Magic: The Gathering due to him being upset about Spectrum Holobyte firing most of his staff (according to rumours).

As a side note, Sid Meier was primarily responsible for running Microprose into the ground so his leaving is a good thing. Some would really oppose this but the fact is he has only made two awesome games exclusively which are Civilization I and II. However, his programming talent is excellent and his influence on Magic: The Gathering will have a profound affect.

Hope this helps out. I have great faith in Spectrum Holobyte not only because of it's strategic trimming and product line, but also because of the guy in charge.

He's the guy that was primarily responsible for putting Sega back on the map with their 16 bit Genesis system a few years ago. He also was primarily responsible for making the Sony Playstation the success it has been in North America when it was first launched last year.

Now he is at the helm of Spectrum Holobyte and everything that is happening consistent with someone of his talent and expertise.

Good luck with the investing!
