Your reasoning is correct, but what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The whole theory of Iraq's huge WMD program was based on the very partisan comments of a few Iraqi defectors. Rather than a lack of special knowledge, what they provided were lies intended to arrange for the US to solve their domestic (i.e. Iraqi) problems for them.
