Both statements are true, yours: "the (except for the word 'vast') majority of the taxes are paid by the highest half of incomes in this country."

and mine: "the Middle Classes are the 'Beast of Burden' for our national finances. They pay the highest average effective rates (once the effect of all those loopholes is factored in.)
