As I was saying the other day, looks like Gays in Canada were bluffing about their desire for "marriage":

Recognition, belonging, and legitimacy within and among the social structure is a need we all have. I really like the phrasing:

"joining a historical stream..."

...in reference to the institution of marriage.

If or when gays get on the track of simply standing up to recieve recognition for who they are and seek a legitimacy for their relationship (civil union ... not marriage) then they may have more success in thier organization as a sub-culture and a solid medium of communication with the heterosexual mainstream.

Since the insistance is on "marriage" I am convinced that the real agenda is destructive in intent and not on achieving recognition, belonging, and legitimacy.

I also found another comment thought provoking: "Unlike heterosexuals, every generation of homosexuals must re-invent itself."

Maybe this has something to do with gay "issues" resurfacing in the midst of social movements in every generation.
