UBS making a market in a security does not imply that UBS is "long" ASND. They can also go short and do go short the stocks in which they make the market in order to increase leverage, liquidity in an issue. UBS has been wrong about ASND's business many times. US West has given no indication that they are replacing ASND as the carrier of choice. Why UBS would postulate this is odd. Most notably, this information probably comes from CSCO's marketing department, not from US West.
