Unfortunately much of this comes from the US soldier's lack of training to carry out a policing mission. Miserable conditions, a hostile local population in some areas now, seeing buddies get shot at and killed, 110-degree summer heat....and troops who know how to win a war, not police the aftermath.

It's a lousy mix. I'm sure there are a thousand stories of great kindness from the US troops that go unreported - but for most it will be a miserable summer. And their commanders are still in denial that everything isn't just peachy.
