Thanks to Carl/Bilow's assistance, I've come to the conclusion that the two plane theory is probably off-base.

What remains a peculiarity of the episode is why there is so little footage of the actual impact of the jet. The entire nation, especially the media, were completely aware of the danger at the time of impact.

The one video we do have of the impact from the surveillance camera in the adjacent parking lot shows a very large whitish fireball occurring at the moment of impact. This would be keeping with your notion of an explosive charge of some sort, and would not be consistent with the start of a kerosene fire, which we saw from the footage of the second impact at the WTC was a much more orange-yellow fireball with a lot of sooty smoke. The two explosions were, from the scant evidence I've been able to locate, caused by two different types of flammable or explosive materials.

Ah, the mysteries. Will they ever end?
