It's a mundo nuevo thing, just what inevitably happens when languages travel and mix with others .... arabic is supposed to have been added many terms and expressions when the moros were occupying Iberia [not all from latin either, many from celtic dialects], and of course they left behind in spanish a few thousands words and dozens of idioms
Pretty funny when los profes at la Academia Real cock a snoot at el cloch for el embrague, and el mofle for el silenciador, eh .... well tough luck, people brought us this language a long time ago and it's ours now

... there is a six-year-old here whose mother is from Hidalgo, she [the daughter] will speak spanish only with my wife and myself, most days ... her mother wants her to keep advancing even through the ten months a year she spends out of Hidalgo, and probably from peer pressure [mother runs a daycare centre, in english of course] she speaks nothing but english when around other kids ..... almost the only time there are no other kids, is when she is visiting us, so we're elected as profes, it's quite pleasant really, she is exceptionally bright [the father is second-generation german, and his mother is teaching the kid german as well], grows stuff of her own in my garden, very sunny personality ..... anyway, just another example of enrichment through mixing, she will likely have an effect on language, just as it does presently on her |
