The plots against Blair sicken.. ananova.com Blunkett hits out at 'self-indulgent' Short The Home Secretary aimed a stinging rebuke at his former Cabinet colleague Clare Short after she called on Tony Blair to quit Downing Street. David Blunkett voiced exasperation at what he described as efforts to "plot" to remove Mr Blair. Ms Short, who quit as International Development Secretary over the Iraqi war, warned Mr Blair that he was losing touch with the Labour grassroots and advised him to leave No 10 before the situation gets "nastier". She rounded on Mr Blair's plans for foundation hospitals and student top-up fees, which she described respectively as a "complete mess", and an "outrageous and absolutely crummy" policy. But in a statement, Mr Blunkett said: "Clare Short is being typically self-indulgent. "It is important to get behind the Prime Minister and focus on the things that matter to people, like decent opportunities and economic prosperity. "We should all spend a bit more time explaining what we have done and are doing." And he declared: "I do not understand why people would plot to try to change the most successful leader in the Labour Party's history."
