My conclusion is that Rove should be thinking hard about how to defuse Iraq as an issue by election time next year. A very tough situation, considering that the Iraq policy is driven by ideologues who don't care very much about politics.

True. But Rove is not in control of this. If Iraq is still bleeding us a year from now, Bush will have a major problem. That is why you will see us pull out of the cities and turn them over to the Iraqis much faster than originally planned. We will have our troops in camps outside, poised to strike at any Bathhist's outbreaks, and let the Iraqi police and army take care of them.

Big advantage over the Vietnam situation is that, outside of the Sunni strongholds North of Baghdad, the people hate Saddam's henchmen and will not let them take over. The Kurdish north and the Shiite south will kill them on sight.

I keep saying "it ain't Peoria!" The bleeding should stop within the next six months.
