On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, I was startled while listing to NPR's Morning Edition when they announced the first plane hitting the WTC-1 by about 8:50 AM Eastern Time. I was able to have the TV on in time to witness the second jet hit WTC-2.
Switching between NPR and CNN I knew by no later than 9:10 AM that there were other jets that had been hijacked. The number was not determined, but it was being announced that Washington, particularly the Capitol and the White House were possibly being targeted. Your statements that the attack was presumed to be limited to NYC and that you didn't think Washington was under attack are facts that were not shared by the millions of people across the globe who were getting instant news from the various media outlets.

Anyone in the intelligence community who was familiar with the attack that was outlined in 1995 by Abu Nidal (as I recall) in a Philippines meeting calling for the hijacking of 12 airliners to be blown up over the Pacific, or anyone who read the NIE, the National Intelligence Estimate on August 6, 2001 at the Crawford Ranch, including George Bush, Condolezza Rice and others "in their circle". Also, various elements of the F.B.I., British MI 5 and MI 6, French, German, Russian and Israeli intelligence and others.
Just because you were out of the loop doesn't mean that the potential for an attack as carried out on Sept. 11 wasn't already a well considered threat.
I would strongly encourage you to take a long look at the research on the anomalies and exigencies surround 9/11 on the Center for Cooperative Research site. A thorough study of the publicly available materials presented here, with an eye toward creating a cohesive mosaic of information, creates a damning case against the Bushies who most certainly were aware of the potential for an attack such as was carried out on 9/11, and who are guilty of failing to protect the American public by means of enforcing a stand-down of the NORAD defenses, and then engaging in an outrageous and still ongoing cover-up of their crimes and malfeasance.
