9-11 was a clear "action" from Al Qaeda- which of course is more than a threat. I totally support going after them. Now how do you connect the Al Qaeda 9-11 mostly Saudi citizen operation to Iraq? Tenuously? I thought so. Not good enough for me.

Saddam is not the same "ilk" as Al Qaeda. Bad actors, but different bad actors. That's like blaming Russia, during the cold war, for something China did. Sure, they were both communists, and they both disliked the US, but does it really make sense to connect them just because you'd like all your enemies to be connected?

Amd I say "Yes, you have to wait. To use the "self defense" line against Saddam we needed to have a threat to actually defend against, that related to Iraq." At the moment it looks like we preempted nothing. I don't know why you can't see the problem with that, but if you can't, you can't. (I'm not asking you to agree, just asking you to try to see the logic involved because there is logic involved.)
