Why do you think he's hemming and hawing over Liberia? First, we can't afford it; secondly, he knows Americans have had enough.

That's a good question...I don't think money is the issue. There's no particular frugality demonstrated by this Administration. $2 Trillion budget; $400 Billion plus deficit; haven't heard this Administration complaining a lot about the national debt...this guy isn't on the cheap side.

From a political perspective, it should be an easy sell as humanitarian; the Pres of Liberia has extended an invitation. Outside of the US, I haven't heard any international objection to a peace keeping force.

The one thing it's missing....you can't bomb the shit out of Liberia before sending in a peace keeping force; we've been invited in! The one thing that is missing out of Liberia is you can't declare a victory in the same sense that you can claim a victory in a war. Without that, there's little political mileage to be gained. Why bother, it's only people? If you can't get a pump in the polls, it isn't much worth it.

I think the question they are asking themselves is whether there is a political liability by not going. Have to look at the polls to decide that one.
